About Us

Who We Are

Play Soccer Ghana (PSG) is a premium sports-for-development NGO and proud member of the Play Soccer Nonprofit International (PSNI) network, with affiliated organizations across USA, Cameroon, Malawi, Senegal, South Africa, and Zambia.

Since 2001, PSG has served as PSNI's flagship pilot program, using football as a transformative vehicle for youth empowerment, health education, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability.

Operating across 11 sites in 6 regions, including the premier FIFA-certified Oguaa Football for Hope Centre, we provide world-class coaching, vital health services, and community development programs to over 3,000 youth participants annually in a safe, professional environment where children grow as both athletes and citizens.

Our Mission

Play for Fun, Learn for Life

To empower Ghanaian children and youth through the transformative power of sport, education, and health, while pioneering a social enterprise model through our 2.0 Initiative. We combine high impact "Play for Fun, Learn for Life" programs with sustainable, entrepreneurial ventures to foster essential social, health and soccer skills, quality learning, and economic resilience in underserved communities.

Our Journey

History & Milestones

2001

PSG Founded - PSNI's First Pilot

Play Soccer Ghana launches as the inaugural pilot program for Play Soccer Nonprofit International (PSNI) network, pioneering the 'Play for Fun, Learn for Life' approach in Cape Coast.

2005

First Health Curriculum

Integration of a structured health & wellness curriculum into all sessions, training local coaches as peer health educators.

2008

Regional Expansion

Operations expand to 3 additional regions — Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, and Greater Accra — reaching 800+ participants annually.

2012

Oguaa Football for Hope Centre Opens

The FIFA-certified Oguaa Centre officially opens as one of the first six Football for Hope Centres worldwide, selected by FIFA and streetfootballworld. Features artificial turf pitch, education hub, and health clinic.

2014

PSNI Network Expansion

Play Soccer Nonprofit International network grows to include affiliated organizations in USA, Cameroon, Malawi, Senegal, South Africa, and Zambia, with PSG serving as the flagship model.

2016

Environets Initiative

Launch of the landmark Environets programme, turning recycled plastic water bags into football nets and educating on the 4 R's.

2019

Mechanized Boreholes

Installation of Mechanized Borehole purification systems at 5 psg sites, providing clean water to over 2,000 community members.

2022

3,000+ Milestone

PSG surpasses 3,000 active participants across 11 sites in 6 regions, becoming Ghana's largest sports-for-development NGO.

2024

Global Partnerships

New international partnerships with FIFA Foundation, UNICEF Ghana, and leading CSR partners to scale impact nationwide.

What we offer at Oguaa
Football for Hope Centre

The Oguaa Centre provides world-class facilities, comprehensive education and health programs, and integrated learning experiences that use soccer as a platform for holistic youth development.

World-Class Facilities
The center features a high-quality artificial turf football pitch dedicated to improving kids' football skills and physical aptitude.
Education & Health Hub
Beyond the pitch, we manage facilities specifically dedicated to public health education and social development.
Integrated Learning
Our regional volunteers use soccer as a platform to enlighten young ones about their social responsibilities and a healthy life.
Our Curriculum

Local Impact & Curriculum

At the Play Soccer Ghana Oguaa Football for Hope Centre, we implement the full Play Soccer Nonprofit International curriculum:

Practical Soccer Skills

Improving technical abilities in passing, receiving, and shooting while emphasizing the rules of the game and fair play.

Holistic Health

Teaching local children how to prevent common illnesses like Malaria and respiratory diseases.

Social Empowerment

Promoting leadership, gender equality, and peaceful solutions to community challenges.

Our Goal

By involving children in these sessions twice weekly, we aim to equip children and young adults with the life skills needed for healthy development into skilled, educated, and responsible adults. We believe our participants can become agents of change and catalysts for community development.

Country Director

Kwamena Addo Nhyira Hammond is a dynamic social impact leader and youth advocate dedicated to community transformation. As Country Director, he leads flagship initiatives like "Play for Fun, Learn for Life," which uses soccer to drive education, life skills, and TVET for Ghanaian youth. He also leads Play Soccer Ghana's 2.0 initiatives which center on social enterprises. He currently also leads the Safe and Sound Cities project in the city of Cape Coast with the sole aim of creating safe spaces for youth to thrive in.
